10 Things You Didn’t Know about JSKI Instructors
We come from every corner of the world; 5 continents gathered in one place
Instructors come from South America, North America, Europe, Africa and Asia, integrate the international Family of JSKI, and our diversity doesn´t end here with our junior instructors are in their 20s to our seniors in theirs 60 s with long careers and experience in ski teaching.
We take exams, level certifications and they are really hard
To become a certified ski instructor, we should obtain an international qualification such as CSIA, PSIA, NZSIA, BASI, KSIA recognized by ISIA. Each one has different levels, with several considerations such as skills, theoretical knowledge, ski demonstration technique and teaching ability are strictly evaluated in each test. Adding that, real teaching experience is also considered for advanced levels. That’s one of the reasons, why after lessons…
We train every afternoon… or in the early morning
We want to keep our condition and improve our skills because that will make us better skiers and better instructors. In JSKI we get instruction from our seniors that not only focus on the technique, but also in teaching methods. And at this time, you may be asking yourself how our seniors keep in constant development? As they say, teaching helps you to become a better instructor… yes, that’s right, but also is necessary for us to take continuing education and practice with internationally renowned coaches… but, our training doesn’t finish here…
We also do a lot of gym work, cardio, stretching, and core balance work.
Ski practice not enough. We also do off-the-slope training. Not only to get stronger but after each skiing day, we need to stretch our muscles to keep them in form and avoid injuries. That also includes massage therapy times, that it will rehabilitate sore muscles, but at first, …ouch!
But we also do fun ski and…. Party!!
Instructor life is not all about hard training: We love to enjoy our ski, having fun with our friends, make crazy things in the snow, of course, without leaving safety out of the picture… and even if at the end of the day we are exhausted, we like to have small parties with our colleagues and a cold beer after training tastes like heaven.
We feel really happy when you can ski for the first time or when you are improving
Each one of us was once a beginner, we know your feelings, fears, and first impressions of that long and heavy pair of skis. We know the challenge that going up to the slope the first time can impose. And if after a class you dominate the first steps and are now enjoying skiing, it makes us extremely happy and proud of you…
But the greatest joy is seeing our former students coming again to take our lessons!
We get really short rest time and free days…
In Korea, the winter season is around four months, but the chances for good snow are shorter. Every winter lover tries to take advantage to enjoy this time and we are not the exception. In peak season we have not really off days; every day, each instructor could work almost without resting from 6 to 10 hours, with really limited time to take some lunch or snacks… but seeing our students having fun is a cause of great joy for us.
We put your security as our priority, even more than ours.
We take your safety to another level, maybe trying to make your ski moving as you desire, you may not notice, but we constantly are scanning the terrain, the slopes, for keeping you safe for hard snow or inconsiderate or reckless skiers. We also receive safety training, in the case that is necessary we will protect you with our own body, if you lose one part of your equipment, we will lend ours to keep you safe.
Our gear requires constant tuning and maintenance and replacement,
Even if our equipment is extremely wear-resistant, we use it all day and the constant friction with the snow, wind, water makes some damage or scratches in our equipment, so constant care such as waxing, edge sharping, pressure adjustment is necessary. But if we talk about gloves, socks, hats that tend to magically disappear we need to replace them at least one time during the season.
Fresh snow and a clear day is the perfect time for skiing, but...
we work despite the weather conditions even if shiny, rainy, or windy we will be at the foot of the canyon with great motivation to teach you… of course within the safety conditions.
This is the Ski instructor world, with all its ups and downs we love it, is our way of life, our passion, and we enjoy and value each time we are teaching and skiing with you!!
Make your vacation in Korea safe and exciting with JSKI!
